Good outdoor lighting on a camper is more than just decoration. It provides orientation on the pitch, creates atmosphere and can serve as a work light in an emergency. However, classic fairy lights have one problem: tangled cables when packing and unpacking.
- 4-in-1 Camping Fairy Lights: MoKo Camping Fairy Lights is an all-in-one camping equipment that combines camping light, fairy lights, work light and flashlight. Not only can it be used as camping lights, emergency lights and flashlight, but you can also use the 32.8 feet long fairy lights for Christmas trees, home decorations, tent decorations, birthday and holiday decorations to create a cozy atmosphere

The MoKo Camping String Lights promise a remedy here with a retractable system with integrated winch. After three weeks of continuous use in Croatia, I can tell you whether the investment is worthwhile.
The most important thing:
- Practical 3-in-1 system (fairy lights + camping lamp + flashlight)
- Battery life: 12-13 hours in fairy lights mode according to the manufacturer. I usually get around 5-6 hours
- IPX4 waterproof - withstands short periods of rain
- Integrated roll-up mechanism
The concept: 3-in-1 lighting system
The biggest advantage of the light is of course the roll-up design. Nevertheless, I was surprised that there are even three modes in total:
- 10 meter LED fairy lights (100 LEDs, warm white)
- Camping lamp (on the front)
- High-power flashlight (300 lumens, on the back)
So you can use the lamp not only in the evening to create a relaxed atmosphere in the van or outside around the van, but also as a work light when you don't have a smartphone or flashlight to hand!

Practical test: Three weeks in Croatia
The first impression was immediately positive. The housing makes a solid impression and the fairy lights are easy to pull out of the housing.
It is simply amazing every time how long the overall length of the light chain is. Even after unwinding it for the tenth time, I'm still amazed at how much fits into the small housing.
That's why we usually don't pull the fairy lights out all the way. You don't have to, it also works great if you only pull out part of the total length.
Assembly
There is a permanently attached hook at the end of the light chain, which is also hidden in the housing when it is wound up. This makes it easy to wrap the light chain around a tree, for example, and hook it onto itself. There is no need to tie a knot or use extra clips.
Nevertheless, clips were included in the scope of delivery. But to be honest, we never used them.
Battery life in practice
In pure fairy light mode (warm white continuous light) I achieved an average of 5-6 hours. After that, the fairy lights have to be plugged in. However, this is easy via USB-C and the charging time is also okay. The underside has four small white LEDs that indicate the charging status.
The lighting modes
Even though we actually almost exclusively used the fairy lights in continuous mode, here are all the modes again for completeness:
- Fairy lights (continuous light)
- Fairy lights (flashing)
- Fairy lights (breathing/pulsating)
- Camping lamp (medium brightness) + fairy lights
- Camping lamp (high brightness)
- XTE mode: Flashlight bright
- XTE mode: Flashlight medium
- XTE mode: SOS flashing (press and hold for 3 seconds)
All modes are switched through using a push button. This can sometimes be a bit annoying if you only want to use the light chain in continuous mode or the camping lamp and then have to click through all the levels again.
Winding and unwinding
The cable is wound up using an integrated turning mechanism with a hand crank. This is easy to do and once you have unwound the entire 10 meters, the entire cable should be back in the housing after approx. 30 seconds of cranking.
Durability: As with a cable reel, you have to be a little careful when winding up the chain to ensure that it rolls up evenly. Otherwise, the entire length may not fit into the housing.
Magnetic holder
The magnet also makes it possible to attach the lamp to the vehicle. In practice, we usually wrapped one end around a tree and then attached the device itself to the vehicle with the magnet. This worked quite well, but the magnet could be a little stronger.
Integration into smart home systems
The MoKo has no smart home functionality. There is no WiFi, Bluetooth or Zigbee integration. It is only controlled manually using the push button on the device.
Of course, I would have liked that, but with a simple light chain you can perhaps do without the smart home functions for once.
Conclusion after three weeks of endurance testing
The MoKo Camping String Lights are a practical solution for campers looking for a flexible, retractable string of lights. We were surprised how often we used them in the evening to simply create a cozy atmosphere at the campsite.
As the battery needed to be recharged occasionally (5-6 hours), we simply bought a second one. At under €20, the price is simply very fair.
It also makes a great gift for anyone who likes to spend time in the great outdoors. With or without a camper.
